kajun
KAJUN (Kriss Johnson Jr.) was born and raised in the Roseland area of the South Side of Chicago. KAJUN’s beginnings helped shape him for what was to come. Through his journey he has overcome the struggles of life and the art of music.
Although, Kajun was out making a name for himself, he was still caught up in the ways of his teenage years. In 1996 he was shot outside the front of his south side home. It was through this experience he realized that he needed a change. He engulfed himseld in his music and began developing raps and through his creativity used whatever equipment he could find. He went on to singing his own hooks, which took a direction within its own path. It was then he knew he had a passion for producing and singing. KAJUN tied together all the elements he learned to craft his music.
In 2008, his talent caught the ear of "Jay Dixon", older brother to DTP's Chaka Zulu and Jeff Dixon. He then signed a management deal with Ebony Son Management under "Jay Dixon". KAJUN was heard on a remix of Ron Browz' single "Pop Champagne" which also featured Ludacris, Jim Jones and Juelz Santana. Soon after, KAJUN landed production on Ludacris' Battle of the Sexes album. He produced the hit Single "Sex Room" which topped the Billboard Top 10 at No.5. In January of 2010, he received an unexpected call, stating that LA Reid set up a meeting at his Def Jam office. They were to discuss a Publishing deal with his newly founded LA Reid Music Publishing Company/EMI Music Publishing. This was an offer he could not refuse.
Since signing with LA Reid, KAJUN has worked with producers Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins, Harvey Mason Jr., Chuck Harmony, The Runners, JR Rotem, DJ Toomp, Soulshock & Karlin, Rob Knox, Heavy D and a lot more. KAJUN has also produced/written for and worked with artist Ludacris, Trey Songz, Avant, Ray J, Ronald Isley, Kelly Price, Jeremih, Playas Circle, Redman, Bootsy Collins, GLC, Shawnna, Do or Die, Will from Day 26, Cap-1 etc.
He is known for his soulful, church-influenced vocals. However he's not afraid to let the creativity of the song to be skewed. Proving himself time and time again whether contemporary R&B, Hip-Hop, Soul, or Pop, he remains one of the most versatile musicians of our time. He currently resides in the South Side of Chicago. He is the CEO of Rank-1 Entertainment LLC along with his long time friend and business partner Derrick "Shorty" Davis. Rapper "Young Tech" is the first artist signed to his imprint. Throughout the years has exemplified hard work and dedication. The best is yet to come for KAJUN.
