Сурганова и оркестр

The biography of Surganova & Orchestra (Сурганова и Оркестр) begins in December 2002, when one of the founders of Night Snipers (Ночные Снайперы) Svetlana Surganova (Светлана Сурганова) left the group, causing a great sensation in the press. In less than a year Svetlana rose very rapidly: she formed her own group of professional musicians from St. Petersburg, composed, recorded and released the debut album Can It Not Be Me (Неужели не я) in 2003. Some 100,000 copies were sold officially. In 2004 Surganova & Orchectra were nominated for the Best Live Group prize and got the prestigious FUZZ magazine award Song of The Year. Songs from Can It Not Be Me broke records for top chart positions: Murakami (Мураками) – 16 weeks on the Chart’s Dozen (Чартова Дюжина); It Hurts (Больно) – 10 weeks. The group shot the Ships (Корабли) video, which was broadcast on MTV and Muz-Tv. Then they went on their first tour, called Circumnavigation (Кругосветка). The albums Alive (Живой) followed in 2003 and Chopin’s Lady-Love (Возлюбленная Шопена) 2005. The presentation of Chopin’s Lady-Love took place in the International House of Music in Moscow. Today Surganova & Orchestra give concerts very often. Their performances’ geography includes the Far East and Kaliningrad. On the Circumnavigation tour they visited more than 100 towns of Russia and foreign countries. Svetlana defines their music as VIP-Punk-Decadence (VPD), that’s interpreted as V – aesthetically adjusted stage image of an elegant and thinking person, the artist’s image uniting experience and inexperience; P – energetic and sincere rendering uniting some hooligan charm and liberal share of self-irony; D – refined and cultured but comprehensible lyrics that touches upon eternal subjects and has its analogues in the Silver Age poetry and in the poetry of the French symbolism. From the musical point of view Surganova & Orchestra’s music is eclectic mixture of different styles – modern rock with some elements of jazz and trip-hop, sounds of violin and French accordion finished with the newest technologies of sound processing.
