Hard Skool is a song from the Chinese Democracy sessions. It originally leaked as a 16-second snippet in 2006 under the title 'Checkmate'. In a 2008 forum Q&A, Axl Rose confirmed 'Checkmate' to be a fake title, while joking that the real title was 'Jackie Chan'. On July 26 2019, a new 28-second snippet leaked, with the tracklisting of a demonstration disc from 2000 revealing the real title as 'Hardschool', and the full track leaked on August 24. The song was initially released by solo artist Aien on November 11 2020, on the album Too Late For Democracy.
