John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie (pron.: /ɡɨˈlɛspi/; October 21, 1917 - January 6, 1993) was an American jazz trumpeter, bandleader, composer and occasional singer. Allmusic's Scott Yanow wrote, "Dizzy Gillespie's contributions to jazz were huge.
